What is your allotment worth?

In a time of increasing food prices and worries about the 'carbon footprint', growing fruit and vegetables in a garden or allotment is becoming ever more attractive and popular. In addition a great deal of money can be saved by growing your own cut flowers. However many people have very little idea of the wide variety of flowers, fruit and vegetables that can be grown by ordinary people even in a climate as unpromising as that of Scotland. SAGS would like as many people as possible to let us know

  • What they grow and how much they harvest
  • How much it costs in terms of work and money
  • How much space they need for growing a crop

We have designed a spreadsheet to allow you to record these details week by week for one whole year. The spread sheet starts in April, and ends in March, but feel free to start later (or end earlier). Also don't feel you have to include everything if you find that burdensome. Please help us by downloading and completing a copy of our spreadsheet, and then sending it back to us. It is very easy to use and there are full instructions on the worksheet. When you have finished (or half way through if you want) please attach the completed sheet to an email sent to webmaster@sags.org.uk
