Join us! Allotments need:

promotion

Allotments make a vital contribution to health and well being in the community. With YOUR help SAGS can continue to raise awareness of allotments throughout Scotland.

protection

Many allotment sites have been lost to housing and commercial development. To reverse this trend and safeguard allotments through new legislation we must provide a network of support and advice and share information and experiences.

preservation

Gardening is becoming a lost art just as awareness of the value of fresh organic food is increasing. Share your expertise and become involved in your local allotment associations to preserve the skills of gardening and to conserve seeds and plant varieties.
SAGS is affiliated to the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG) and membership of SAGS can be combined with membership of NSALG. By a long standing agreement Scottish Allotment Associations do not join NSALG directly, but always through SAGS. The benefits of membership of this UK wide society are:
  • Access to a cheap insurance scheme which covers committee members for third party liability and through which you can insure association property and members' tools, sheds against specific risks. Remember that if an accident occurs and a court finds that it is caused by negligence of an association then individual committee members could be in real financial problems if you are not insured.
  • access to free legal advice to resolve disputes
  • a seed scheme run from a catalogue gives all members the chance to buy seeds from a national supplier at about 1/3 off normal shop prices
  • a glossy quarterly magazine to member societies and a selection of informative leaflets
