Old Craigie Road Allotments negotiate new lease

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Old Craigie Road allotment association in Dundee received a nasty shock in November of last year when they were given one years notice to quit their site as their lease was ending.  The fear was that the allotment site would be required for use as a burial ground.  This in spite of the fact that every plot on the site is occupied and there was a waiting list of 40 people.
However now all has ended (fairly) happily.  With advice from SAGS the allotment association was able to show that they were a positive benefit to the local community and the council has agreed to a new lease of 20 years, although only on condition that the allotment association takes over responsibility for the maintenance of the fence surrounding the site.
