Alness and District Allotment Society Formed

Such was the enthusiasm at the inaugural meeting of the Alness & District Allotments Society that the twelve founding committee members were appointed without any arm twisting. Helen Houston, the development officer for the town said, “ I was delighted that thirty one people attended the meeting and that all 26 allotments have now been allocated and a waiting list started.”

The committee will now start to raise funds to have the site cleared, fenced and sheds erected. To establish the allotments will cost around £40,000 and it is hoped that if all goes to plan the “plotters” will get started in spring 2008. Alan Muir the new President commented, “more people are becoming interested in gardening and growing their own vegetables. This way we know that what our family is eating is wholesome food”.
