Scottish Allotments and Gardens Society

The SAGS committee tries to remain abreast of government and local authority initiatives that might impact on allotment provision in Scotland and to comment on any relevant proposals put out for consultion. We also try to influence policy by putting forward our own ideas and by networking with associated organisations. We want to involve as many members as possible in these processes, so all our comments, proposals and reports to other organisations will be published through links on this page. • Responses, Proposals and Presentations:

  • A briefing paper on the potential contribution allotments could make to reducing an individual's carbon footprint.
  • A report by SAGS members showing how local food production, including production in gardens and allotments can help reduce climate change and preserve biodiversity
  • A briefing paper prepared to show how supporting allotments can help local authorities to implement targets and oucomes for the Single Outcome Agreement
  • A PDF version of Finding Scotland's Allotments: the full report on the SAGS audit of all Allotments in Scotland. (warning: this document is big and contains pictures so may be slow to down-load. A picture free version will be available soon.
  • The results of SAGS consultation and research demonstrating that gardening activities contribute to a range of benefits for the Scottish community and advocating that a representative body be given a remit to protect and support horticultural and gardening activities
  • Response to The East Lothian Review of Allotment Provision. Unfortunately the original review document appears to have been removed from the East Lothian Council web site. You might be able to obtain a copy from the Leisure department of the council.
  • Response to the draft Scottish Planning Policy 11: Physical Activity and Open Space. The policy document can be viewed here.
  • A report on SAGS activities presented to the Glasgow Allotments Federation.
